Our future is built on a long history

  • Opportunity in the Great Depression

1932-William H Klein, along with two colleagues founded The Franklin Company during the Great Depression. In its early years, the Company developed an expertise in the installation of electrical/mechanical equipment and different types of fuel and heating oil storage tanks.

With their experience and focus as electrical contractors, William Klein’s wife named the company after the Franklin automobile
that William drove with a nod to
    Benjamin Franklin.

  • It Can Be Done

In the 1960’s, William T Klein joined his father at The Franklin Company. The motto of the company through the 60’s was “It Can Be Done” in promoting their expertise with Industrial Liquid Storage system and Industrial Electric Installations, Gasoline Tanks and Pumps. To this day, Franklin Company is known for its ability to troubleshoot and problem solve some of the most unique and complicated fuel system challenges.

Through the 60s, 70s and 80s, projects and customers included the Shell Oil storage plant facility in Brooklyn, Shell Oil retail petroleum sites in NYC while Franklin also continued its work with industrial controls, and commercial and industrial electrical work for pump and tank projects.

The company moved from Woodside to
    College Point in 1984

  • There’s Always Work to Be Done

The strong work ethic and motto of William T Klein of “There’s always work to be done” continued to guide the company in this next phase. As the major oil companies moved away from operating the retail locations, Franklin’s work shifted from working with Shell Oil to contract work with the Metropolitan Transit Association (MTA), NYC Transit Association (NYCTA) and other state and city agencies including the NY Power Authority, FDNY.
William R Klein joined the company in 1990
and took over as president in 2000 upon the
death of William T. Klein. William R Klein
    grew the company significantly through
    construction, maintenance and service
    contracts with the MTA and
    other agencies

  • No job too big or too small

Under the leadership of William R Klein, Franklin Company has remained a valued and trusted Pump and tank contractor for NYC and New York State projects. It is the only NYC Pump and Tank contractor that holds a NYC Master Electrician license.

The company continues to bid state and city work with the DDC tank upgrades for FDNY, NYPD and DSNY. It has active service contracts with MTA, DEP, and a construction contract for the NYS Southern region for NYS OGS,

  • Retail and enviromental Expansion

Over the last ten years, the company has returned to retail service work with a strong and talented Service Department. It recently expanded its environmental division with the purchase of two Vacuum Trucks to offer its customers prompt and easy access to water removal, tank cleaning and environmental compliance.
